The Hague is the third largest city in the Netherlands. This September an important meeting took place in the charming city. While the cyclists passed a building in the middle of the city center, forty-two people from nineteen different countries gathered inside.
Some of them were personally affected by Huntington’s disease while others were health workers, clinicians and researchers. It was a broad spectrum of people gathered underneath one name: Huntingtonians.
The business meeting took place on the 15th of September – an annual meeting for the European Huntington Association (EHA). A new board and President of the EHA were put in place. Bea de Schepper gave the President’s report of 2014 – 2016, before the business meeting heartfully thanked her for serving twelve years as President. She received warm applause and presents from the participants. They encouraged de Schepper to continue her new hobby: cycling.

Astri Arnesen was chosen as the next President succeeding de Schepper. Arnesen has eight years of experience as Head of the Norwegian Huntington’s Association. She gave an introductory speech about the new project launched by EHA: ‘Stronger Together’. As further stated by Arnesen: “We are all Huntingtonians and we have a common goal – to improve care and treatment in Huntington’s disease.” The term ‘Huntingtonians’ was first used by Emilie Hermant to refer to all people affected or professionally working with Huntington’s disease. The project ‘Stronger Together’ aims to establish Huntingtonians as one team working together.
