Huntington’s Disease (HD) is a complex neurological condition that evolves over time, affecting movement, cognition, and behaviour. As many of the HD-related changes are invisible – since they occur in the brain – understanding what the disease does neurologically is essential to provide effective, compassionate care.
From diagnosis to advanced stages, neurologists play a central role in guiding individuals and their families through complex decisions, providing tailored clinical management and essential emotional support.
With this in mind, the Neurology and Huntington’s Disease course was created to equip both formal and informal caregivers with the knowledge and practical tools needed to support individuals living with HD throughout the entire disease journey. Effective care relies on strong collaboration between healthcare professionals, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure a holistic, person-centred approach.Â
The course covers key aspects of HD care, including the role of neurologists in diagnosis, management, and long-term support; the progression of the disease across different stages; and how motor, cognitive, psychiatric, and behavioural symptoms evolve over time.Â
What will you learn about?
By the end of the course, participants will have a clear understanding of the neurological aspects of HD and learn how to better respond to its evolving challenges with empathy, flexibility, and informed decision-making.
